CTPAT Update:Customs Releases Its Long Awaited Catalog Of Supply Chain Security Best Practices

March 15, 2006

Its here! On March 9, 2006, Customs and Border Protection ("CBP" or "Customs") posted to its website the long awaited "Supply Chain Security Best Practices Catalog". You can download your very own by clicking the following hyperlink: "CBP Supply Chain Security Best Practices Catalog." (If you cannot use this link, the address is www.tuttlelaw.com/customs_materials/ctpat_best_practices.pdf. This file is in Adobe Acrobat 7 which can be downloaded at www.download.com)

The catalog is a response by Customs to hundreds of requests by C-TPAT importers and others for more definitive advice on "how to" construct a supply chain security program that will allow them to reach C-TPAT Tier II and Tier III status. In response to these demands, Customs has collected and published what it considers the "Best-Practice" elements of CTPAT programs of C-TPAT importers it has verified as having acceptable programs. We will be providing more information and analysis on this document in coming newsletters, but for now, we thought to share it with you as soon as possible.

If you have any questions on any of the issues raised in this newsletter, or in participation CBP's C-TPAT program and how you can incorporate the ideas of its "Catalog of Supply Chain Security Best Practices," please contact George R. Tuttle at grt@tuttlelaw.com (415-288-0425), George Tuttle, III at geo@tuttlelaw.com (415-288-0428) or Stephen Spraitzar at sss@tuttlelaw.com (415-288-0427).
