Customs' Intensive Review of All Quota Entries

We have learned that instructions have been issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (Customs) at Headquarters in Washington, DC, to local ports throughout the U.S. to thoroughly review all quota entries. This review started on June 1, 2003, and, based upon discussions with a Customs' Supervisory Import Specialist at a West Coast port, the review will continue throughout the month of June. It is our understanding that this review of quota entries will focus on country of origin, classification, and categories for each merchandise subject to quota. In addition, Customs will be reviewing backup documents that support a quota entry, such as textile declarations, visas, and quota statements that are submitted with the quota entries. The purpose of this review is not clear, but we believe it is a trade compliance project.
